discussion of specific measures for enhancing the accountability of the child welfare system

In the past twenty years, there has been a significant increase in research focused on self-regulation, encompassing both behavioral and emotional aspects. As various constructs have been developed and their definitions clarified, the role of these constructs in promoting overall adaptation and healthy functioning has garnered more attention. Thompson (1994) characterized emotion regulation as a process involving the initiation, maintenance, and modulation of internal emotional states and associated physiological responses. This regulation encompasses the capacity to manage attention and exercise deliberate control. Specifically, when faced with a stressful situation, individuals may experience a strong urge to react in ways that may not be beneficial (such as fighting, yelling, or crying). The ability to direct attention towards both the external environment and internal emotional responses, along with the capacity to regulate the expression of these emotions in relation to the event, reflects the skills associated with effective emotion regulation.

The Cognitive Institute of Dallas and With Healthy Families Firsthas consistently highlighted its commitment to spearheading discussions and implementing measures to address social injustice. Additionally, the institute has outlined initiatives aimed at rehabilitating families affected by the high recidivism rates within the family court systems.
